Elmer H. Denney, 83, of Timbercrest Drive, passed away at 9:45 p.m. Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility surrounded by his family. He was born in Crab Orchard, Kentucky, September 27, 1928, the son of the late Killas and Margaret Neal Denney. He married Edith Laverne Brown on April 16, 1949, and she survives. Elmer was a devoted Christian. He was a founding member and currently attended Central Heights Church of God, where he taught Sunday school for over 35 years. Elmer was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the United States Marine Corp. He was employed at Golden Casting for 41 and a half years, serving the last 35 as a Machine Operator. He loved to garden and fish. He is survived by brothers, James (Clara) Denney of Alert, and David (Lana) Denney of Crab Orchard, Ky.; sisters, Dorothy (Manford) Todd of Columbus and Lydia (John) Siler of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Cecil Denney, Emmit Denney and Paul Denney; and sisters, Geneva Oliver and Gladys Denney. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Nathan Greene officiating. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery with a military graveside service to be conducted by the Bartholomew County Veteran's Color Guard. Calling will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from noon Tuesday until service time at the funeral home.
