Jacob Rector was the son of Hans Jacob Rector and Anna Elizabeth Fischbach. He was born about 1721 in Germantown, Fauquier County, Virginia, about 20 miles north of the Germanna Colony that his parents help settle. His father died in 1729, when Jacob was still a young child.

Jacob married Mary Ann Hitt; probably in 1748. Mary Ann Hitt was the daughter of Peter Hitt and Elisabeth Otterbach, who were original 1714 colonists to the Germanna Colony. She was born about 1717 or 1727 at Germantown, Fauquier County, Virginia, and died November 16, 1813 at Grayson County, Virginia. Jacob died in Grayson County, Virginia on July 30, 1810.
