Revolutionary War Officer. He studied at Harvard University for several years, completed a medical apprenticeship in Deerfield, and became a physician in 1771. He was commissioned a Captain of the Militia in 1775 and commanded a company at the Battle of Bunker Hill. He was later appointed a regimental Surgeon, and served in New York and on an expedition to Montreal before resigning in 1777. A Democratic-Republican, beginning in 1792 he served as a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives and State Senate, and as a member of the Executive Council. He received honorary degrees from Harvard and other universities, and was a founder of the Berkshire District Medical Society.

Doct. Timothy Childs. DIED Feb. 25, 1821. Aged 73. (This is incorrect; Childs was 72 years, 10 months, 16 days old at his death.)
