Plattsburg Leader, Plattsburg, Mo. 10-30-1896:
Double Wedding at Easton.
The most important social event of the season in Easton was the double wedding which was solemnized there in St. Joseph’s Church, last Wednesday morning, Oct. 21st.
The contracting parties were: Mr. Eugene Allgaier and Miss Mary Scanlon, of Easton; Mr. Daniel Horan of Richmond, and Miss Kathleen Allgaier of Easton.
The ceremony was performed at 10:30 o’clock, but long before the appointed hour the sacred edifice was filled with a vast throng of admiring friends and relatives.
Prof. Wm. Plato of St. Joseph, presided at the organ, and as the strains of Mendelssohn's wedding march re-echoed through the church the bridal party passed down the aisle. The ushers were Mr. S. Allgaier, of Cleveland, Ohio, and Mr. J. Nelligan of Richmond, Mo. They were followed by two tiny misses Agnes E. Barry of St. Joseph, and Alice Mulry of Easton, two pretty little flower girls, who wore dainty frocks of white and carried baskets of flowers. Just after the flower girls came Mr. Allgaier and bride, the latter attired in a costume of brown boucle cloth trimmed in braid; her hat and gloves were en suit and she carried a large cluster of bride’s roses. Then came Mr. Horan and bride. The second bride wore a dress of dark green novelty cloth trimmed in chiffon and moire antique silk, and hat and gloves to match. Her bouquet was also of bride’s roses.
Arriving at the altar-railing, the bridal party were met by Rev. C. L. Kearful who spoke the mystic words which united for life the happy young people. Father Kearful was assisted in the ceremony, and Nuptial Mass which followed, by Rev. Father Schaefer. The choir upon this occasion was composed of Prof. Plato and daughters who rendered Rosewig’s Mass. At the Offertory, Miss Annie Plato sang “Ave Maria” in a most effective manner.
The church was beautifully adorned with plants and cut flowers.
After Mass the young people repaired to the home of Col. Michael Allgaier where an elegant breakfast was served to relatives and friends. A delightful feature of the joyous event was the family reunion, one of the number having returned from California after an absence of 20 years.
The wedding presents were beautiful and numerous among the number being several checks for goodly amounts.
All of the contracting parties are social favorites. Mr. E. Allgaier is a son of Col. Michael Allgaier who was at one time mayor of Weston and at other times sheriff of Clinton county; his bride is also a representative of one of Easton’s old and highly esteemed families. Mr. Horan is well and favorably known in Richmond as he is one of the prosperous merchants of that place. Mrs. Horan, nee Allgaier, is the second daughter of Col. Allgaier and a bright and accomplished young lady.
On their return from a wedding trip East Mr. and Mrs. Allgaier will reside near Easton whilst Mr. and Mrs. Horan on their return will be “at home” in Richmond.
The happy couples have the best wishes of many friends.--(Catholic Tribune.
