Claus F. Ehlers, 94, of Elkhart died at 1:20 p.m. Wed., Aug. 7, 2013 at his residence.

Claus was born April 26, 1919 in Junction City, KS to John A. and Marie M. (O'Neill) Ehlers. He married Verda A. Horne on Oct. 21, 1945 in Junction City, KS. They relocated to Elkhart, IN. She preceded him in death on April 19, 1999. He married Dorothy Rowley in 2001; she preceded him in death on July 12, 2010.

He is survived by daughters, Donna (Joseph) Rice of Indianapolis, Ramona Ehlers (Jim Calhoon) of Elkhart; son Michael (Sandra) Ehlers of Elkhart; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sisters, Leona Porter of Manhattan, KS, Marjorie Gustin of Junction City, KS, Gloria Salberg of Manhattan, KS; and brother, Walter D. Ehlers of Buena Vista, CA. He was preceded in death by his brother Roland A. Ehlers who perished at Normandy Beach, and his grandson Joshua B. Ehlers on January 25, 2001.

Claus worked at C. G. Conn for 27 years as a key buffer, where he was known as "Slim", Claus also worked at W. T. Armstrong, and he retired in 1996 from Blessings.

Claus served in the United States Army from 1942- 1945. Claus was a sergeant with Company C, 19th Infantry where he received Ranger training later to serve in the South Pacific.

Claus was a former member of the American Legion, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
