During retirement, he volunteered for many years with Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity, and also built many wheelchair ramps. He was a longtime member of the Koinonia Sunday School class of Forest Lake United Methodist Church and Alberta United Methodist Church, serving in many leadership positions.
