Herman was the son of Jacob Schoen and Clara Pless. About 1927 he married Leona Sauer Joute (her second marriage) and they had two children: Kenton and Donald. He was an industrial engineer at Reynolds Metal Company during World War II. At the time of his death, Herman was an antiques dealer at Bardstown Road and Cherokee Parkway. He died of abdominal carcinomatosis at his home, 1623 Rosewood Avenue, at the age of 52.
