A Corpus Christi serviceman was killed in an auto accident last night in Reading, Pa., his parents, both local teachers learned today.

Morgan Roy Evans, ETR 3, a radar specialist, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy A.[sic] Evans [Katherine Louise Eubanks], 3654 Lawnview. Evans, 22, was serving on the USS New, a specialist ship for tracking submarines, based at Norfolk, Va.

The ship's commander called the parents about 1 a.m., they said.

Evans was a 1961 graduate of Ray High School, where he played trombone in the Texan band, attended Del Mar College and was a junior at Texas A&I College when he entered the service two years ago. He had been in the Reserves two years. He received Naval training at Norfolk.

A native of Corpus Christi, Evans attended Fisher School and Hamlin Junior School prior to Ray. He was active in Del Mar and Texas A&I engineering clubs.

Evans, the father, a resident here 22 years, an independent architect, teaches drafting at Carroll High School. Mrs. Evans teaches English at Del Mar.

Surviving the serviceman are one sister, Mrs. Paul Anderson (Dara Elizabeth Evans) of College Station, and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. N. H. (Nathan Henry) Evans (Lucinda Catherine King) of De Leon, Texas.

The family today had received no details concerning the accident and had not made definite plans for return of their son's body to Corpus Christi. They were awaiting further word from the Navy, they said.
