Mrs. Mae Marie Wolfe Atkins, age 88 of Mt. Airy went to be with the Lord August 25, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Surry County on December 7, 1924 to the late Willie and Huldah Davis Wolfe. Mrs. Atkins retired from Proctor Silex after 35 years of service and attended Temple Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. Mrs. Atkins enjoyed working in her yard, baking cakes, cooking dinner on Sundays for her family and eating with friends at Hardee's. She loved spending time with family and friends, she never met a stranger and was a very giving person and it showed through her 6 wonderful kids that she raised after the death of her husband in 1970. She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Hal Heath, Margie and Jerry Moore, Bonnie and Avis Dalton and Nancy and Phillip Thacker all of Mt. Airy; one son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Tammy Atkins of Mt. Airy; sixteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; brother, J.W. Wolfe of Dobson; brother-in-law, Glenn Patterson of Staunton, VA and a sister-in-law, Maggie Danley of Dobson, NC. In addition to her parents her husband, Mrs. Atkins was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan Atkins; a daughter, Judy Atkins White; four sisters, Opal Carpenter, Viola Willard, Lena Mae Gilley and Louise Patterson and by three brothers, Allen, Fred and Robert Wolfe. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at the Moody Funeral Home Chapel with services conducted by Mr. Hal Heath, Chaplain Robin Sides and Mr. Wayne Hiatt with burial to follow in the White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday night 6 to 8 P.M. at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy, NC. The family will be meeting at Mrs. Atkins home at 619 Cadle Ford Rd. Mt. Airy, NC.
