BOWLING GREEN - David W. Young, 81, of Frankford, died Sunday, July 18, 2004, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 23, at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal. The Rev. Bob Hoehn will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 22, at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green.

Mr. Young was born Dec. 18, 1922, in Bowling Green to Harvey Sylvester and Viola Cornet Barker Young. He was married to Nellie B. Harlow on Dec. 18, 1946, in Hannibal. She survives.

Other survivors include one daughter, Barbara Jean Young of the state of California; one brother, Kenneth Young and wife, Beverly, of Frankford; five grandchildren, Hank Allen Spencer, Brent Ray Spencer, Janet Lynn Spencer Hawkins, Leah Ann Spencer Graciano, Kelly Marie Spencer; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Bonnie Smith and Elsie Potts; and two brothers, Joe Young and Roy Young.

-Military Service-
David joined the U.S. Army on January 5, 1943. He was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Pulaski County, Missouri,
near Waynesville, Missouri. After his training, he was deployed to the South Pacific (APTO) on March 31, 1944 and arrived in New Guinea on April 21, 1944 where he served as an Army Medical Corpsman (Aidman - TEC 5) with the 27th General Hospital. He was later stationed in Tokyo, Japan. He arrived back in the U.S. at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri on January 28, 1946 and was honorably discharged on February 4, 1946. David was awarded 1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign ribbon, American Theater Campaign ribbon, Victory Ribbon and 3 Overseas Service bars.
