Ruth Dille Chittum, 87, formerly of Independence Hill, Morgantown, and currently a resident of Wishing Well Manor in Fairmont, passed away late Tuesday evening, August 27, 2013 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born in Morgantown on June 24, 1926, a daughter of the late Rupert Hall Chittum and the late Mary Ruth (Dille) Chittum. Ruth was a graduate of Morgantown High School and West Virginia University. In her early years, she worked at the Pentagon as a dietician, and retired as a records assistant from the West Virginia University College of Business and Economics with more than 30 years of service. She was a member of the Suncrest United Methodist Church, Harmony Rebekah Lodge #51 of Morgantown, Sweet Adelines and a past member of the Business and Professional Women's Clubs. She was a member of the Col. John Evans Daughters of the American Revolution and was a direct descendent of Col. Evans by way of her great-grandmother, Gillie Evans Dillie. She also was a volunteer at Ruby Memorial Hospital, having logged more than 4,500 hours of time there. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Janet Chittum of Fairmont; nieces Rebecca Ruth Nicholson, Mary Wurth, Alisa Smith, and Jennifer Smith, as well as several great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, David Hall Chittum. Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, on Friday, August 30th from 10 AM until the time of the service at 12 Noon with Reverend Elise Renee Neal officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Union Cemetery on Point Marion Rd., Morgantown.
