A 1974 graduate of Sonora Union High School, "Boss" was a member of Future Farmers of America.

After graduating, he joined the Yosemite Trail Crew and served as a seasonal firefighter with the U.S. Forest Service.

He later moved to Stockton, San Joaquin County, California. There he owned a wholesale jewelry designing and making custom pieces for clients of various retailers including Rogers, DeVons, Crescent, and Zales jewelers. He also repaired jewelry.

He retired to Sonora in 2001.

As a very talented artist and outdoorsman, he also enjoyed drawing, painting, songwriting, fishing and the outdoors.
