Alice Butterfield Hatchard was born in Paget Parish, Bermuda in 1797, the daughter of John Hatchard and Alice Hutchings Butterfield. Her first husband, whom she presumably married in Bermuda, was Joseph H Rivers. With him she had two children in Bermuda: Emily Rivers (born June 9, 1818) and Malvina Louisa Rivers (born October 20, 1820). Sadly, Joseph Rivers died while Alice (also known as Alsey) was pregnant with Malvina. Alice Hatchard Rivers later married "unknown" Newman and gave birth to Theresa Paine Newman, presumably born in Bermuda.
