Professional Basketball Player. He held the distinction as being named the NBA's first ever Rookie of the Year (1953). For five seasons (1952 to 1956 and 1957 to 1958), he played at the center and forward positions in the National Basketball Association with the Fort Wayne Pistons and Rochester/Cincinnati Royals. After attending Wilbur Wright High School in Ohio, he played collegiate basketball at the University of Dayton. During his years with the Flyers, he achieved legendary status as he was a key contributor to Dayton's national recognition as a formidable program. The Flyers reached the NIT Finals twice (1951 and 1952) while Meineke established himself as one of the school's all-time scoring greats. He earned All-American honors twice. He was selected by Fort Wayne during the 1952 NBA Draft and appeared in 343 regular season games. He yielded a career-high 725 points during his Rookie of the Year season (1952-1953). He compiled 2,338 total points. He is a member of University of Dayton Athletic Hall of Fame.
