Former Apostolic Nuncio in Cuba and Archbishop of the Titular See of Gortyna, Monsignor Giuseppe Burzio was born in Cambiano, Province of Turin, Italy, and was ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Turin on June 29, 1924, by Bishop Filippo Perlo IMC.

Nephew of Cardinal Francesco Gaude OP., (1809 - 1860), Burzio pursued further studies in canon law at the Pontifical Athenaeum San Apollinare in Rome. Assigned to the Apostolic Nunciatures of Peru, Czechoslovakia and Lithuania, as advisor, he was successively assigned to the Sacred Congregation of Extraordinary Ecclesiastical Affairs within the Secretariat of State.

At 45 years of age, Pope Pius XII appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in Bolivia, receiving his episcopal consecration with the Titular See of Gortyna on June 30, 1946 at the Cathedral of Turin, from Cardinal Maurilio Fossati, assisted by Bishops Giovanni Battista Pinardi and Paolo Rostagno.

Transferred to the Nunciature of Cuba on December 18, 1950, he resigned from office on January 7, 1955, and moved to Rome, where he was appointed Canon of the Chapter of the Patriarchal Basilica of St. John Lateran, passing away there on February 10, 1966 aged 65. His body was taken to his Cambiano and interred in the chapel of the Holy Trinity, an edifice which dates back to the early seventeenth century, located inside the local cemetery.
