The son of Carl Clement Rideout 1876-1924 and Alice Helen Fernald 1880-1960. He majored in chemistry at North Eastern University but quit school after three years to open up a tobacco shop. At North Eastern he met Edena Leola Strout his wife to be who worked in the schools office. On Mar 29 1928 he hired on with the Ford Motor Company Somerville Plant as a parts clerk where his ability to remember numbers amazed fellow workers. (Retired 1963) He could remember the part number of every part in every automobile that Ford had ever built. He quickly advanced up the management ladder where he was in charge of all material for the Somerville assembly plant. In WWII he was an Air Raid Warden and a Lt. Col. in the Army Reserves but was never called up.
