Killed in the ditching at sea off Elba, while
returning from a mission over Italy, after two
engines failed. Four crew members bailed out
prior to the ditching and survived, two were
captured by the enemy and two evaded capture.
The six crew members who remained aboard
were killed in the crash landing at sea.
Lt. Frone's body was recovered in March, 1944
when it washed ashore.
