Actress. Born Louise Gunter, her father was a banker, she enjoyed growing up in high social status and attended an all-girls school in Washington, DC. While studying at Sarah Lawrence College, she developed an interesting in acting and later moved to Hollywood in pursuit of a career in entertainment. She studied at Max Reinhardt's School of Acting and while there, she was discovered by talent scouts. Additionally, she was guided by actress Sue Carrol (wife of Alan Ladd). This led to her motion picture debut as the lead female in the picture "Billy the Kid Outlawed" (1940) and this would be followed with a variety of pictures including "You'll Find Out" (1940) and a small uncredited role in the classic "Citizen Kane" (1941). She may perhaps be best remembered for playing opposite Bela Lugosi in the picture "The Ape Man" (1943). She totaled more than 40 films before retiring from the industry during the 1950s. She was briefly married to actor John Whitney.
