He married Elsie Dietrich Meyer in 1911 in Philadelphia, and the couple lived in Pennsylvania and New Jersey during their marriage. They had three children -- Frederick (Buster) Kobolt (1912 – 1980); John Kobolt (1916 – 1916); and
Marguerite Meyer Kobolt (1917 – 2008).
The Kobolts were living in Atlantic City, New Jersey, when Ferd became ill, but he was hospitalized in Philadelphia where he died of complications from diabetes in 1925.
