Rev. C. Willerup writes from Copenhagen, Denmark, Aug. 2, 1860:
My last letter to you was dated June 1st, and yours of June 21st I have just received. Although I have nothing specially interesting in the form of incident to inform you of, still I can say, to the praise of God, that he is still blessing our mission. The good work is in progress among us, and although we have not had so many conversions on the mission this summer, I think that our members are growing in grace and knowledge. Some are groaning for a full salvation, and some are rejoicing in that perfect love which casteth out all fear, and with few exceptions they are all firm in their fidelity and attachment to the Church of their choice--In a few days I am going to Norway to my Quarterly appointments, and after my return I shall send you my report, that you may hear of the entire mission. In Copenhagen the congregations are not so large now as they have been, owing to the warm weather and our small house. The Lutheran clergy continue to work against us. As soon as they hear of any persons awakened among us, they warn them against us, and our not having any church yet, they also use this as a means against us. As for myself, I can say that, amid all my trials, I have been greatly comforted and encouraged in preaching the Gospel, and I trust the day of eternity will reveal that it was not in vain. In Sarpsburg the Lord is still blessing the efforts of the missionary, Brother Steensen. We meet here with many trials and oppositions, but it is wonderful how the grace of God is sufficient for all things. In Frederickshald the Lord is still pleased to make his Gospel preach the power of God, unto salvation to precious souls. Brother Cederholm, the missionary there, reports well; and I may say the same of the other missionaries also; but, as before said, I am going to Norway in a few days, the Lord willing, to my Quarterly appointments and after my return home I hope to be able to report to you good news. I close these lines by placing on record my lively and grateful sense of the debt of obligation under which the goodness of our heavenly Father has placed is.
