POSSIBLE MILITARY SERVICE RECORD for David J. LaFleur (unconfirmed that this is him) Service Number: 228 58 47; Rank: AS [Apprentice Seaman]; aboard the USS John W. Weeks (DD 701); he arrives on the ship Aug 24 1947. Muster date Sep 1 1947. Transferred off of ship Sep 6 1947. 1943 grandfather George LaFleur dies, and David goes to live with his aunt Gladys LaFleur Montpas, presumably in Illinois.

1940 CENSUS shows him living in Wabeno Forest County WI with grandfather George LaFleur, a widower age 76. Age 23. Also living there is George's son James, age 27. David is listed as "son" with the name LaFleur. David & James laborer in lumber industry. David unemployed 118 weeks; James one week.

1930 CENSUS for Wabeno Townhsip, Forest County WI shows David Kochenskis Grand Son of George & Ellen LaFleur with whom he lives. Age 13. Born Wisconsin. Father born Poland. Mother born Michigan. Trade or profession: none.

About 1919 his mother gets married again and has 4 children. Mary in 2/19/1920, Robert 6/8/1921- 1921?, Germaine 2/5/1924, Unnamed boy Pavlich 1927- 7/14/1927. David must have lived with Jessie and John Pavlich from birth until somewhere between ages 3-12 when he went to his grandparents, most likely earlier because the 2 half-sisters do not recall living with a brother. By 1930 the two half-sisters were in an orphange.
Born 6/26/1916, the son of Joseph Kunchynski & Jessie LaFleur Kunchynski. His father Joseph died in a mine accident April 16 1916 before David was born (and possibly before Joseph even knew he was going to be a father). After marrying her second husband about 1919 and having 2 daughters, his mother Jessie was institutionalized at some point in the mental hospital at Newberry MI until her death in 1938.

INFORMATION FROM RELATIVE daughter of half-sister Mary Daly (via 3rd party) says David had begged his mom to let him live with his grandparents in Wisconsin. While living with his aunt & uncle David would buy his half-sisters Mary & Germaine jewelry and he loved to go to the race track! He would give 2 dollar bills or Dollar coins on the holidays which he won at the race track. He worked in a bakery which was walking distance from Aunt Gladys's house and when they visited (when they were very young) they would visit him at the bakery and he would give them free baked goods. He had a violent death. He was found in the alley by Aunt Gladys's house. Someone probably knew that he carried cash from the track. [Another source says he died in an alley of a heart attack.]

INFORMATION FROM RELATIVE niece Nancy Clendennin ([email protected]) says died Feb 13, 1963.
