George C. Roberts married Bonnie Sue Sellers and together had 2 children: Lisa Diane Roberts and Jennifer Leigh Roberts Eckman(#48205976).
He was originally from Huntingdon, Tennessee, but lived much of his young life in Illinois, where his mother (# 117203244) worked for the railroad in the reading room with her sister Vallie Cary Barrett (102077514). For a period of time, as a young man, he worked with his father, George C. Roberts, SR, restoring and selling used mobile homes.
Soon after marrying, he moved south to Hattiesburg, MS, near his wife's family, and later moved to Meridian, MS to work with Roadway Trucking Company in 1971, the year his youngest daughter was born. At this time he bought 40 acres of property from Algie and Katie Walters who lived close to the new Roadway Company, in Lauderdale County, in the area of Arundel Rd (outskirts of Meridian), and gave them a life estate in their home.
He built a home for his mother, Ila Mae Roberts, on this same property where she lived for the remainder of her life, and died 7 years before her only son, George. He also built a home for his own family on this property, where his children grew up.
He was a hard worker, who raised large gardens in his spare time and sold sweet potatoes by the bushel over the period of many years. He enjoyed keeping the property up with his tractor and spending time outdoors.
In the last 16 years of his life, he remarried, opened and ran a bar-b-q restaurant after retiring from Roadway, and also continued to run a business to restore used cars
His family remembers the good times together and he is dearly missed.
