Retired firefighter Gerald D. Bledsoe, 69, of Fontana died of a stroke Friday at Loma Linda University Medical Center. Bledsoe, a native of East Los Angeles, was a resident of Fontana 17 years.
He was a Los Angles City Fire Department firefighter for 27 years. He served in the Army during World War II, serving in the European Theater. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Cross in Rialto, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 506 in San Bernardino, the American Legion, and the California State Firefighters Association.
He is survived by his wife, Elia J.; three daughters, Cheryl Bledsoe Billings of Simi Valley, Kathy Bledsoe Emerson of Crescent City and Martha Lydick of Laguna Beach; his sister, Rowena Bienbrech of La Habra; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the McNearney Family Mortuary, 130 S. Willow Ave., Rialto. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Lutheran Church of the Cross, 1308 N. Riverside Ave., Rialto, with interment following at Rialto Park Cemetery, 200 N. Willow Ave., Rialto.

GERALD D. BLEDSOE 69 yrs., only child born to Mattie and Mathew Bledsoe on January 15, 1924, passed away October 29, 1993.

He grew up in East Los Angeles where he attended Rowan Elementary; Robert L. Stevenson; and Garfield High School. He attended Cerritos College and Chaffey College where he obtained an A.A. and A.S. Degree. He has lived in the Inland Empire for the last 17 years moving here from Norwalk. Jerry was a member of Lutheran Church of the Cross; Los Angeles retired fire and police association; California State Firefighters of America; American Legion; and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 506 San Bernardino. His hobbies were gourmet cooking and love for his home and family. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

His survivors are his loving wife and companion of 30 years, Elia J. Bledsoe; his Daughters, Cheryl Bledsoe Billings; Kathy Bledsoe Emerson; Martha Irene Lydick; six Grandchildren, Jaimie Collaren, Jenifer Emerson; Chip Stewart Lvdick; Diane Michael; Tony R. and Angela Martinez; also two Great Grandchildren, John Rygh and Luane Irene Martinez; a loving Sister, Rowena Bienbrech and her family from La Habra, CA; numerous Cousins, Aunts and Uncles and his very special Aunt, Ana Moore from Yucca Valley.

Viewing hours will be on Thursday, Nov. 4, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at McNearney Family Mortuary, 130 S. Willow Ave., Rialto. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 5, at 11:00 am at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 1308 N. Riverside Ave., Rialto, followed by burial at Rialto Park Cemetary.
