Witnessing across the years, great and often tragic events, during the Second World War, a bombing destroyed the old church and dozens of homes on November 5, 1944, leaving some thirty victims. After the war, already ninety years of age, he took care of the reconstruction of the church and the bell tower, which project he managed to conclude thanks to the help of many benefactors and volunteers.
Originally buried at the Cimitero Urbano, in 2008 his remains were transferred to the church he built and re-interred in the Cappella Balliana.
