Tennessee Franks (1863 - 1902)

Marion Steve Jennings was the second of John & Tennie's six children. His parents were living in Cooke Co, TX when he was born on April 17, 1884.

His siblings, in order of birth, were John Wesley, William "Calvin," Cora, Jesse C., & Earl.

His parents were living on a farm near Madill, Marshall Co, OK when his mother died in 1902. About two years later his father married Minnie Lee Shipley. She was blind & had two young step-daughters from another marriage, Annie & Nancy Ratcliff. Later she gave birth to his sister & brother, Octie, born in 1905, & JC, in 1907.

Marion, age 28, was living in Provence, OK when he met and married Clara Hawkins, 26, daughter of John Thomas & Annie Hawkins, in April 1913.

The date of his birth was shown as April 17, 1884. His physical description was tall & medium build, brown eyes and dark colored hair.

On May 17, 1938, Clara held a birthday in honor of her husband's 54th birthday. Their guest were relatives & friends.

Marion & Clara announced the marriage of their daughter, Jewel, to Leo Woodrow in the Daily Ardmoreite on Feb. 26, 1939.

In attendance were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Price, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Beatty, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Jennings, and their families, and Jess Jennings and J.C. Jennings. The couple will make their home in Ardmore."

Constables Find Mash, Cooking Utensils and Worm (condensing coil), but No Whiskey
Carter county constables discovered 100 barrels of mash, cooking utensils and a worm but no whiskey when they raided a still five miles southeast of Ardmore Saturday morning.

Charges of ownership of the still have been filed against Johnny Kemp. M.S. Jennings, Joe Lewis and Joe Holder were the constables making the raid."

In February 1945 Jess Krieger was chosen to serve as constable to succeed Marion who had resigned to move to CA.

M.S. (Marion) Jennings, former long-time Ardmore resident and former constable here, died Saturday, in Bellflower, Calif., after a lengthy illness. Service will be Tuesday in Bellflower.

He is survived by his wife, Clara; two sons, Edgar Jennings, Ardmore, and Bill Jennings, Central Point, Oregon, and three daughters, Mrs. Leo Woodrow and Mrs. Bill Price, Ardmore; Mrs. Bill Dalton, Superior, Ariz.; Mrs. Ray Landmon, Norwal, Calif., and Mrs. Johnny Paparelli, Long Beach, Calif.; also three brothers, Jess, J.C., and J.W., and two sisters, Mrs. Lawrence Ballard and Mrs. Cora Sedig, and 18 grandchildren."

Clara died at home five days later.
