The death of Henry B. Jewell occurred at the home of his son, Mr. Henry Anson Jewell in Ashland Christmas morning. Mr. Jewell was born in Holderness Feb., 22, 1841 and spent most of his life in that town. As a young man he was loved and highly esteemed. During the years he has proven himself to be a man of integrity, a good citizen and a kind helpful neighbor and friend.
He married Sarah E. Sargent in 1864 and within a few years they bought the place where they have since resided. Some thirty years ago he and his wife were baptized in Little Squam Lake by the Rev. Daniel Batchelder. He was interested in music and earlier in life conducted singing schools.
Mr. Jewell leaves a widow and two sons, Henry Anson of Ashland and Frank E. there are also two brothers, George E. Jewell of the Mt. Livermore House, Holderness and Mr. Freeman Jewell of Meredith.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 28th undertaker E.G. Gammons in charge. Selections were sung by a quartet from Holderness, Mrs. Welch, Mrs. Menkin, Mr. Jason Sanborn and Mr. John Perkins. Officiating clergyman was Rev. John Manter of the Baptist Church, Ashland.
