Pvt Samuel Turner
Birth: Feb., 1826
Death: Jun. 13, 1868

Indian Mutiny Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Suffolk, England, he served as a Private in the 1st Battalion, 60th Rifles, British Army. At Delhi, India, on the night of the June 19, 1857, the enemy attacked the rear of the British camp and heavy fires carried off a mortally wounded British officer. Private Turner was wounded by a saber cut on the right arm while saving the wounded officer. For gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Victoria Cross on January 20, 1860. He died at age 42 in Meerut, British India. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
