Indian Mutiny Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in in Llanwino, he served as a Bombardier in the Bengal Artillery, Bengal Army. During the siege at Lucknow, India, on September 27, 1857, under a heavy fire Bombardier Thomas saved a wounded soldier of the Madras Fusiliers from falling into the hands of the enemy. For most prestigious gallantry, he was awarded the Victoria Cross and later achieved the rank of Quartermaster Sergeant.
