George Frederick (Fred) Rinehart, Jr. passed away June 10, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary McKinney Rinehart and George F. Rinehart and his wife Barbara Ward Rinehart.

Fred was born in February 23, 1935, and lived his entire life in Kirklin, graduating from Kirklin High School where was a star athlete for the Travelers. He lettered 16 times before graduating and met the girl of his dreams there. He attended Indiana University, but returned home to marry Barbara, his high school sweetheart.

Fred farmed a portion of the family homestead, a centennial farm, that dated from the pre-Civil War Era and the Homestead Act. He and Barbara traveled extensively from South Africa to Monaco and on to Hawaii and many others spots in the United States in the course of their more than 50 year marriage. Fred was a big bear of a fellow with a voice that bellowed, a hug that enveloped and a heart that embraced.

He was loved by friends and acquaintances who remember his willingness to share whatever he and Barbara had if they were in need. He kept in contact with his friends at the restaurant he opened nearly a decade ago, "Fredy's," in downtown Kirklin or at the American Legion Hall Post 310 of which he was a member.

Fred was a small town boy at heart with a love for all his animals and friends. He delighted in entertaining his younger cousins on visits to Freddy's farm. He loved all sports and held tickets to the Colts from the time of their arrival in Indianapolis.

Fred will be remembered by many friends, but especially by his extended family members. His surviving cousins include Bert Wilhoite, Ann Brilley and Matilda Wilhoite. In addition, the King family members, Ann, Debbie King Andre, Daniel, Brian, Bill, and Catherine King Taylor hold fond memories of life with Freddy. Barbara's siblings, Mike and Suzanne, also survive.

A memorial service will take place on Tuesday, June 18, at 10:30 A.M. at the Goodwin Funeral Home in Frankfort, Indiana. Family members will welcome calling in the hour before the service starting at 9:30 A.M. Following the service, burial will be in McIntire Cemetery.
