He went to school in St. Paul and when a young man he left home to join the Rodeo. He traveled all over the world with the William Cody, Wild West Buffalo Bill Show. He was one of the top riders for 10 or more years. In 1924 while riding in this show, he met Hattie Mary Bail in Texas. After knowing her for 3 days they were married on October 12, 1924 in Breckenridge, Texas. Hattie had been married before when she was 16 years old. Her husband was an engineer and was killed in a train wreck leaving her with 2 small boys to raise. She lived with her mother until she met Amos 7 years later. Amos served as a father to the boys.

Amos and Hattie cared for her father until his death April 1963. He was an invalid and was 93 at the time of his death in Long Beach, California.
