GENEVIEVE B. HIGGINS August 3, 1915- September 27, 2013 Genevieve B. Higgins, age 98, a loving mother who guided her children to a loving heavenly father, quietly passed away September 27, 2013 surrounded by her family. She was born on Aug. 3, 1915 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Chauncey A. Betz of Medina, OH but lived most of her life in Birmingham. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Howard Higgins; parents Chauncey and Hannah Betz of Medina, OH; brother Carlisle (Sandy) Betz of Medina, OH. Survivors include her brother John(Dot) Betz of Rockford, IL; son Bill (Jean) Higgins of Gardendale, AL; son Tom (Rita) Higgins of Opelika, AL: grandchildren Keith (Sharon) Higgins and Tracy (Mark) Young bother of Auburn, AL; two foster grandchildren Melissa (John) Matheny of Fayetteville, AR and Amanda (Jason) Decker of Opelika, AL.; and 6 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Tuesday October 1, 1:00 - 2:00 PM at Johns Ridout's Valley Chapel at 1800 Oxmore Rd., Homewood followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM. A private burial will take place at Elmwood Cemetery.
