Actor. He gained fame as a child actor for his role of 'Butch' in the Hal Roach-directed "Our Gang" (Little Rascals) comedy motion picture shorts. He appeared in twenty-seven of the short, fourteen of them as the 'Butch" character, who was an archetypal neighborhood bully and antagonist to the rest of the characters. When World War II started he left acting and served in the United States Navy. He returned to acting after the end of the war and his honorably discharge, and appeared as 'Jimmy Olsen' in the first two "Superman" superhero films ever made - making him the first actor to appear in that role. He left acting in the early 1950s and entered directing and production, mostly in television. In his later years he kept the memory of "Our Gang" alive with personal appearances and interviews. He passed away at age seventy-nine in 2005.
