BAUGHAN, MARIANNA BRITTAIN, formerly of Hoover, passed away on December 4, 2007. Marianna was born May 28, 1908 in Birmingham, Alabama to George Dameron and Leta McGlathery Brittain. She graduated from Birmingham Southern College and earned a graduate degree in history from the University of Alabama. She taught in Alabama public schools, first in elementary school, then with older children. She was asked to create a seventh grade writing curriculum during this time that was used in schools throughout Alabama for a number of years. After transferring to high school, Marianna eventually became head of the history department. Marianna was also a longtime member of the Exchange Club and helped set the standard for the Scholarship Cup which was presented yearly to top high school seniors. While teaching at the high school, she met her husband, George Baughan. They enjoyed many happy years together, and were well-loved as "Uncle Chilly and Aunt Nana" by their many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Baughan was preceded in death by her husband George; her parents; her sister, Leta Bess Slate; and her brother, George Marshall Brittain. She is survived by nine nieces and nephews and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Marianna spent the last eight years in Charlotte, NC cared for by her family and the wonderful staff at Cypress of Charlotte.

The family will receive visitation at Ridout's Valley Chapel on Saturday from 1:00-2:00, followed by a graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery.
