RITA SORRENTINO, 88, passed away Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at Summerlin Hospital, after a one-month hospitalization.

A 40-year resident of Las Vegas, Rita was surrounded by her devoted children, Frank, Tony and Debbie. Rita was preceded in death by the passing of her beloved husband, of 48 years, Joseph Sorrentino, Feb. 23, 1996.

Rita was born Oct. 24, 1924, in Bristol, Pa., to Daniel and Bridget Dugan, who had immigrated to the United States from Donegal, Ireland. She was one of eight children, including brothers Daniel and James; sisters, Mary, Helen, Catherine and Anne, now deceased, and Theresa, who survives her, along with brother-in-law, Milton Bross, of Groveville, N.J.

An avid reader with an interest in history and medicine, Rita especially loved helping people in need. As a young woman, she graduated from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Trenton, NJ., and practiced as a registered nurse. She married Joe, a businessman, in 1948, and worked in the family orthopedic shoe business for many years before moving to Las Vegas in 1973.

The couple had three children who survive her, attorneys Frank and Tony Sorrentino, both of Las Vegas, and Debra Sorrentino Larson of Orlando, Fla. Rita is also survived by her sister-in-law, Ann Giesguth of Smithville, N.J.; and son-in-law, Rick Larson, of Orlando; loving grandchildren, Jacqueline Larson, of Charlotte, N.C. and Michael Larson; granddaughter-in-law, Camille Larson; and great-granddaughter, Clara Larson, all of Tallahassee, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at the King David Chapel at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89123.
