Albert Raymond Tilch, Private First Class. 3D Bn 26 Marines, 5th Division. KIA - Killed in Action by a sniper who emerged from a cave, on Iwo Jima, an island in the south Pacific occupied by the Japanese army. Al was killed 1 day after the raising of the U.S. flag, which took place on the top of Mount Suribacki. He was 20 yrs 3 mo 3 days old. In April 1948, 3 years after his death his remains were returned to the family for burial, in the family plot.
The funeral was handled by DeSantis Funeral Home.
