According to the 1860 census he was a farm laborer, 40 years old, born Ohio, owned real estate valued at $5,000 and personal estate valued at $100, and lived in Omaha, Nebr. with his brothers Joseph and John A. Creighton.

His burial card states he died in August 1866 and was buried in Holy Sepulchre cemetery in November 1874.

Birth date estimated from the fact that he was born between his brothers Francis (1816) and Edward (1820).

James was the first to settle in the West. In company with his brother Joseph, he reached Omaha in 1856. James was of delicate health, and did not long survive the severity of the rough Western life of those days. He died in 1866.

CREIGHTON – In this city at [illegible] o’clock, A. M. Aug [illegible] JAMES CREIGHTON, aged 48 years.

The friends of the deceased are requested to attend the funeral at the residence of John McCrary at 9½ o’clock, A. M., Sept. [illegible].
