Roger was the husband of Thelma I Dalryple and loving father of daughter Deborah I. Dalrysple of Long Beach CA. He was the son of Roger N. Dalrymple of Bakersfield CA and Ruth M. Juvenall of Selma CA. WO-2 Dalrysple was a veteran of over twelve years of service with the US Marine Corps having re-enlisted on February 28, 1964 in Quantico VA. He arrived in Vietnam on July 8, 1967 where he was assigned to 9th ITT, HQ Battalion, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.

On November 17 a village in Quang Nam Province was undergoing and intensive search for enemy weapons or contraband when a wire was tripped causing a missile to be fired. Warrant Officer W-1 was stuck in the abdomen and killed.

Warrant Officer Dalrymple received a posthumous promotion to WO-2.
