Father of 4 children: Harriet Lucinda (Strayer) Fay, Edwin Strayer, Daisy Strayer, DeEtta (Strayer) Bascom [Bascom per a Fay descendant]. Vet-CW Union Army. Enl 2/29/1864 in 3rd PA Hvy Art and mustered out 11/09/1865. 1/1843 contributor #47061806 but she was not certain of year.

"Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Strayer's 54th wedding anniversary occurred on Sunday, Sept. 24. Their three children, Mrs. John Fay of Wellsville, Mrs. M. C. Bascum of North Baltimore, O., and E. M. Strayer of this village spent the day with their parents in honor of the event."

"DEATH OF CIVIL WAR VETERAN
L. D. Strayer passed Away at His Home Here on Tuesday Morning, Aged 79 Years.
L. D. Strayer, a well known and highly respected resident of Bo0llivar, died at his home on Friendship street in this village at 4 o'clock Tuesday morning, December 123. He had been in poor health for sometime [sic].
Mr. Strayer was born at Geneva, Crawford county, Pa., January 1, 1842, where he received his early education.
In September, 1862, he was united in marriage to Miss Lucy M. Trace of Crawford county. The following year he enlisted in the third Pennsylvania heavy artillery, was sent to Fortress Monroe, being stationed there for a while, then sent out with the light artillery. He served until the close of the war in 1865. Mr. Strayer was a pensioner and a member of H. C. Gardner Post No. 247, G. A. R. of Bolivar.
Following the war he located at Rouseville, Pa., where he was an oil operator for a number of years. He came to Allegany county in 1881, locating on Phillips Hill, town of Bolivar, where he had charge of an oil property. Later he worded at the oil business in the Bradford and Indiana fields, returning to Bolivar about 18 years ago.
He was a member of Bolivar Lodge No. 51?3 or 5? I. O. O. F., had been an Odd Fellow for 44 years and was a past district deputy.
Bedsides his wife, Mr. Strayer leaves three children: Supervisor E. M. Strayer and Mrs. Murray Bascom of Bolivar and Mrs. John Fay of Wellsville; also three sisters, Mrs. Esther Clark of Los Angeles, Cal., Mrs. Rachel C. Christ of Geneva, Pa., and Mrs. W. H. Canfield of Cambridge Springs, Pa., and one brother, Dr. J. P. Strayer of Oil City, Pa.
The funeral services were held at the house at two o'clock this Thursday afternoon, with Rev. J. B. harry of coudersprot, Pa., officiating. The pallbearers were members of the local Odd Fellows lodge, M. A. Ingalls, V. W. Buell, A. E. Mix, S. A. Wertman, A. E. Monroe and J. F. Care.
The interment took place in Maplelawn cemetery in Bolivar."

"A probate of the heirship of Edwin M. Strayer and DeEtta Strayer Bascom of Bolivar and Hattie L. Fay of Wellsville to lands owned by their father, Lorenzo D. Strayer, who died Dec. 21, 1921, was allowed. The property concerned consists of two lots on Friendship Street, Bolivar."
