Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer, Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois, Wednesday, April 17, 1940, page 2:
  William Thomas Walsh, 79 years of age, died at his home in Hamel township, five miles northeast of Edwardsville, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.
  Mr. Walsh was born on December 12, 1860, in Ireland, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Walsh. When four years old he came to this country with his parents, settling at Marine. He had worked on the Wabash Railroad and farmed. He had lived in Hamel township for the past 50 years.
  On September 11, 1890, Mr. Walsh was married to Miss Mary Elizabeth Manion at St. Mary's Catholic Church by Rev. Daw. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in September.
  Surviving are Mrs. Walsh, two sons, Charles L. at home and William of Milwaukee, Wis., two brothers, Martin Walsh, Hamel township, and Patrick, Marine, and one sister, Mrs. B. Loos, Marine.
  Rosary will be said at 8 o'clock Thursday evening. Funeral services will be held at Straube's at 8:30 Friday morning and at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Church. Rev. Clemens Carroll of St. Louis will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
