Sports Announcer. A native of Pensacola, Florida, he was the longtime play-by-play announcer for the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team. He became the team's announcer on April 7, 1977, and ended his run on June 3, 2004. A graduate of the Cambridge School of Broadcasting in Boston, Massachusetts, he began his career in Plattsburgh, New York, before moving onto Burlington, Vermont, where he became a corporate sales manager and sports director. Besides announcing for the Toronto Blue Jays, he was also a swing man on Montreal Expos radio broadcasts, broadcaster for the University of Vermont's hockey, baseball, football, and basketball teams, broadcaster of college basketball for the Mutual Radio Network, member of the broadcast team for ABC Sports at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York, and broadcaster at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo. One of the high points of his career came in Game 6 of the 1993 World Series when describing Joe Carter's home run, he bellowed the words, "Touch 'em all Joe! You'll never hit a bigger home run in your life!" In 2005 he was nominated for the Ford C. Frick Award. On June 12, 2004, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and immediately had surgery. The surgery was successful, but the cancer returned in September of 2005. He again went for treatment at the Mount Sinai Hospital and the Toronto Western Hospital, both in Toronto, but he passed away in Oldsmar, Florida, on October 9, 2005, at the age of 66.
