US Congressman. Elected as a Republican to represent Ohio's 6th District in the US House of Representatives, he served from 1897 to 1901. Brown was born in Waynesville, Warren County, Ohio. During the Civil War he saw action in Company H, Seventy-ninth Regiment of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and then worked as a journalist. He was admitted to the bar in 1873, set up law practices in Waynesville, Lebanon, and later in Cincinatti, and was prosecuting attorney for Warren County from 1880 to 1883. He resigned the latter position to take a seat in the Ohio State House of Representatives (1883 to 1887). Defeated for a third term in Congress in 1900, he returned to legal practice and wrote editorials on politics and government. He died in Lebanon.
