Mrs. Brooks was the widow of John C. Brooks, a retired farmer of near Springfield who died in 1913.
She was born Nov. 10, 1853 at Bible Grove, Clay county, the daughter of Christopher and Mary Monical. Both of her grandfathers were Methodist ministers.
On March 17, 1871, she married Mr. Brooks and the couple came to Sangamon county in 1894.
Mrs. Brooks was a member of the Douglas Avenue M.E. church.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. J.R. Holliday, Mrs. W.M. Dickerson, Mrs. John Poff, Mrs. Walter Rutherford and Mrs. Brimbarger, all of Springfield; three sons, R.B. and Orville Brooks, of Springfield; Capt. E.C. Brooks, of Dubuque, Ia.; one brother, C.C. Monical, of Niantic; twenty-four grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at Bisch Memorial home and at Douglas Avenue M.E. church.
Burial in Oak Hill.
