Mr. Quates was employed with USX Corporation as a steel worker and was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Pratt City. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Johnnie Mae Quates of Birmingham; a son, David Quates, Jr.; and two sisters. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church of Pratt City with Rev. T. L. Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
