Caroline "Carrie" May LANCY - Carrie was born 16 Mar 1875. She was a fat girl just bursting with energy. She would grab Father when he came in and lug him into the living room. Mother was upset with some of her doings. I have seen her slap her face many times. Mother was a big woman and had a fist that if it struck you, you knew it. One day she hit Carrie across the ear. It hurt her badly. She had a fever and lost her hearing. She spent unknown money, but nothing would cure her hearing.

She died less than 50 years old. She had a lame arm from birth. She had a bad joint in the elbow. When she was big enough to carry a pail, Father made her take a tin pail of rocks around hoping that might help it, but it did not. She walked over the stairs and stepped into a bucket standing on the stairs. She got a broken ankle. She got bitten by a horse she was feeding. She lost her mind and was hard to take care of.

Poor Carrie. Mother gave her a slap in the face, and her fist was potent. Carrie went into a fever, and when she came to consciousness her hearing was very bad. They put money to it, but no good.
