Artist. She was a great-great-granddaughter of American novelist James Fenimore Cooper was an accomplished water-color artist whose works have been widely displayed throughout the United States, with the largest showing being a permanent exhibition at the Fenimore Art Museum. Many of her works have been published in the New Yorker magazine. She was a fascinating woman with broad interests beyond her passion for art. She was an avid skier who competed and placed in regional and national competitions. Although offered a slot on the U.S. team to race in Europe, she declined. A seriously fractured leg ended her skiing career in 1950. The subjects of many of her paintings reflected her love of nature. She reveled in the outdoors, rescued and rehabilitated wounded and orphaned animals, and could be seen walking her dog daily until shortly before her passing. In addition to a home in Mount Kisco, New York, she continued to maintain a residence in her ancestral namesake community of Coopertown where she was laid to rest.

Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery hand in hand.
For the world's more full of
weeping than you can understand.
