William Cornwell
Mar. 26, 1937 ~ Nov. 3, 2013
Resident of Saratoga

William "Bill" Cornwell passed away in the company of his loved ones on November 3, 2013 at the age of 76 after suffering a recent stroke.

He was born in 1937 in Seattle to William Franklin and Eva Imogene Cornwell and was raised in Los Angeles. After serving in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in Italy and later the Psychological Warfare Unit, he graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in electrical engineering. Bill started his career in the aerospace industry before joining pioneering semiconductor equipment maker Xynetics/Electroglas in 1969, from which he retired in 1996 as President and Chief Operating Officer. When Electroglas relocated to the Silicon Valley in 1975, he moved with his family to a home in Saratoga he designed.

Throughout his long and successful career, Bill always remained an engineer at heart. Following his retirement, he loved spending time with his family, who affectionately called him "Babbo" (Daddy in Italian), traveling internationally, tinkering in the garage and restoring classic cars.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sandra Kay Cornwell of Saratoga, and children, John William Cornwell of San Francisco and Melanie Ann Cornwell of Berkeley. He also loved his two grandchildren, Anika Grace Cornwell and recent addition and namesake William Anderson Cornwell.

A service honoring Bill will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the Madronia Cemetery in Saratoga Village.
