William Alexander Brewer, often referred to as W.A. Brewer, was the son of John Brewer and Rebecca Brown. He was married to Elizabeth Jane Sanders. The couple is buried at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery in Seneca, SC.

William was a Confederate soldier in the Civil War, serving in the 22nd SC Infantry Regiment, Co. D, also known as the Hopewell Guards and Walhalla State Guards. William was discharged from service at Appomattox Courthouse, Virginia on April 11, 1865, two days after the regiment surrendered there.

His and Elizabeth's children include: Lucinda Calline Brewer Sanders, John Alexander Brewer, Ida Brewer Chandler, William Parrott Brewer, Annie J. Brewer, and Joseph Lewis Brewer.
