Ralph Eugene "Gene" Clapp; Formerly of Sesser
Gene Clapp 89 of Whittier, California formerly of Sesser, died Feb. 21, 2008 in a hospice house critical care unit after a long illness. Gene was born April 26, 1918, to William R. & Ada Mae Millen Clapp on a farm near Sesser. In August 1940, he married Christine Sample, and she survives. While in Sesser, he worked in various coal mines. He Moved to Whittier in 1954, and he started working for Crown Zellarback Paper Co. He retired from there after 39 yrs. service. Besides his wife of 67 years, he also leaves two children, a son, Phillip "Tyke" & wife Mary, of Whittier, CA & a daughter, Elaine Walker & Husband, David, of Fontana, CA; three grandchildren, Don Clapp & wife, Cindy, of Yorba Linda, CA, Linda Clapp of Whittier, CA, and Crystal Pinckard of Fontana, CA: four great-grandchildren, Nolen and Grace Clapp of Yorba Linda, CA and Blake & Nicholas Hartwick, of Fontana, CA; three sister-in-laws, Roberta Cockrum of Greenville, IL, Ruby Robinson of Sesser, IL and Marie Clapp of Christopher, IL and lots of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harry and Byrl Clapp, three sisters, Helen Boswell, Marie Bunton and Lois Martin and a special nephew, California Highway Patrolman Leslie Clapp.
