Thomas Samuel Cornwell, Jr., 74, died Monday. Burial in the Clinton Cemetery.
Mr. Cornwell was a native of Cleveland County and the son of the late Thomas S. and Lula Spangler Cornwell. He was a graduate of North Carolina State University, a former Sampson County Commissioner, former Assistant County Agent and was with Farm Center and Hatchery as a business operation. He was a former manager of the Sampson County Produce Market, a member of the Sampson County Airport Authority, the Board of Directors of the Wolf Pack Club in Raleigh and was a Mason and a Shriner. He was a supporter of the 4-H Club, a former member of the Jaycees and was voted Outstanding Young Man of the Year. He was retired from the North Carolina Department of Commerce, a member of First United Methodist Church in Clinton and served on the board of trustees and the administrative board.
Surviving: wife Barbara Cooke Cornwell; daughter, Carole C. Hales; son, Michael Steven Cornwell; four grandchildren, John B. Hales, Stephanie C. Hales, Thomas J. Cornwell and Mellissa C. Cornwell.
