Doris Evans Crofoot, 99, of Wichita, Kansas, died November 8, 2013.

Doris was born in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, on July 27, 1914. She was raised on a farm at Bazaar and attended eight grades of school at the Bazaar schoolhouse.

Her mother was Ethel Gillaspie Hays, and her stepfather was Harry L. Hays. When her mother married her stepfather, he had a daughter, Beryl Hays. Both girls were five years old.

Doris graduated from high school in the 1930's and began working as a private secretary at the Warren Mortgage Company in Emporia. She married Glenn Gordon Crofoot on September 8, 1946. They owned the Crofoot Ranch in Chase County. They raised two sons, Stephen and G.G.

Doris was a member of the school board and belonged to the Saffordville Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir. Later, Doris and G.G. joined the Presbyterian Church in Cottonwood Falls. After moving to Emporia, she transferred her membership to the First Presbyterian Church.

Doris was always a good Republican and actively served her party. She was committeewoman for the Republican Party in Chase County and served on the Central Committee for many years as chairperson and vice chairperson. She was on the Board of Directors of the State of Kansas' Fifth District and also traveled to Washington DC as a delegate to the National Republican Women's Convention.

She was active in participating in home health services in Lyon and adjoining counties. She was chairperson and co-chairperson for the Flint Hills Area Health Planning Council, known as FHAHPC, for years, and chairperson of many Kansas and regional programs at Newman Regional Health. She served as the Newman Hospital Board Chairperson of Long Term Health Care. Doris was a delegate for Kansas and Missouri to the National Hemophilia Association Convention in Los Angeles.

Doris and Glenn moved to Emporia in 1976. Life was great there with their wonderful friends and neighbors, along with their nieces, nephews, and their families. Due to health complications, in 1999, they moved to Larksfield Place, and retirement community, in Wichita, Kansas. They loved it there with all of their new friends and with all the facilities available under one roof.

Doris is survived by her grandson, Nicholas Crofoot and his wife Angela of Kansas City; two great-grandchildren, Isabel and Stephen Crofoot; her daughter-in-law, Julianne Amos of Bentonville, Arkansas; a sister-in-law, Helen Wealand of Cedar Point, and many wonderful nieces and nephews, who were dear to her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn, on November 16, 2001; her sons, Stephen in 1995 and G.G. in 1987; by her sister, Beryl Hays Stout Ward of Bazaar; by her brother, Wallace Evans of Emporia, and her mother and father. She lived a happy life and enjoyed it all to the fullest extent.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, November 15, 2013 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. Her nephew, Mr. Joe Stout, will officiate. Burial will be in the Bazaar Cemetery in Bazaar, Kansas.

Memorial contributions to Larksfield Place "Caring and Sharing Fund" may be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
